Mitu Wines Cabernet Sauvignon 2024

Share

Mitu Wines was founded by Florence Drummond. Mitu means “me and you” in Torres Strait Islander Creole — a reminder that wine can be a connector, a conversation, a shared space. I like that. I like this wine. Fragrant purple tones on the nose — blueberries crushed underfoot, river stones still wet from the current. Grounded, expressive, loud, laid-back — all words you wouldn’t normally associate with traditional Cabernet. Luckily this is not a traditional Cabernet. It’s vibrant and fun, showing that this grape doesn’t have to be boxed into one style. This single vineyard wine hails from Wilyabrup in Margaret River, matured in 3-year-old French barriques. The oak supports the fruit, but does not silence it — lending back to that freshness and vibrancy. Ripe mulberry, charred earth, and emu plum. Mitu’s wines spark the conversation that wine doesn’t simply come from the land — it belongs to it. And this speaks of Wadandi Boodja. There’s a hum of wildness on the palate, then sweet fruits, spongy soil, and crushed gravel on the palate. Plush and savoury. Chalky tannins and fresh acid. A long finish with beetroot chips and apple seeds. It’s delicious. It’s different. I like it.
