Mount Langi in Victoria’s Grampian region is recognised as one of the great pioneers of cool climate Shiraz in Australia. The Pepper Series is dedicated to a celebration of the pepper and spice charm of the style. That said, don’t expect pepper getting up your nose. This 2021 Shiraz with fruit from the Grampians, Heathcote, Bendigo and the less than cool region of Swan Hill, is not overtly peppery but rather the pepper compound – rotundone – is in harmony with some classy fruit. Briar, bramble, black peppercorn and blackberry fruit aromas are bright and perky. Supple in mouthfeel, almost understated, with fine grain tannin, it’s at once plush but also full of peppery spark as it comes to a close and lingers nicely. Top value here and there’s also the possibility for further ageing.
Exclusive to Aldi stores.
