Oliver’s Taranga Mencia 2020

If it’s taken the Grenache grape 180 years to be cool in the Vale, it’s taken Mencia no time at all. The Spanish/Portuguese red grape adapted fast to its warm, Mediterranean climate Down Under. A big part of its allure is its elegance. Deep, glistening purple hues. Brings out a full display of black cherry, pomegranate, earth, cacao, licorice and dried herbs. Everything – fruit, oak, tannin – knits together nicely on the medium-bodied palate. It’s not too heavy, not too light, just right and nicely balanced. You can see why winemakers and drinkers are getting excited by the grape.

And its pronunciation? “Men-thee-ah”
