Ottelia Mount Gambier Chardonnay 2019

Share

I’ve been a fan of the Ottelia wines for a little while now, particularly the riesling. But in 2019 their chardonnay is also kicking some serious goals. It is not your typical chardonnay style either – it’s a wine of restraint, finesse, only whispers oak and has exceptional subtlety. It is definitely a wine to watch.

French clones combined with the cool Mount Gambier climate have made this a tight and elegant style of chardonnay. Citrus and honeydew melon aromas are accented by subtle, spicy oak with some savoury lees complexity. It is then compact and bright on the palate with tangy acidity driving a long, chalky finish.  Give this a couple of years and then enjoy it (not too cold) over a light lunch.
