Ottelia Mount Gambier Riesling 2019

These wines from Ottelia show such a pretty and unique side to South Australian wine. Surely Mount Gambier is the coldest wine region in SA, as it is located near its southern extreme with the vineyards very exposed to the icy winds that whip up off the Southern Ocean. The Ottelia Riesling, in particular, is much closer to Great Southern than Eden Valley in style.

It is a wine of super purity and focus showing concentrated but understated fruits – green apple and citrus with chalky complexity. It is followed by a lightweight palate with mainly citrus flavours lifted by an intriguing smoky edge. A crisp and very fine style of riesling with a lingering and silky finish, that makes a delicious pairing with a chilled platter of sashimi.
