Top marks to a winemaker who looks beyond the obvious fruit bomb styles now favoured by some Pinot Noir producers. Instead, the soil and the grape’s herbal qualities are explored with a light savouriness kicking in. It’s not only refreshingly individual but, with the credentials of a top vintage behind it, worthy of time in the cellar. Opens with aromas of briar, plum, earth, dried leaves and herbs. Has substance, depth and weight in the glass bringing fruit, red liquorice, thyme and dried herbs together against a background of gravelly, textural tannins. Finishes with a cherry pip dryness. A fine Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir.
