Parish Vineyard Coal River Valley Riesling 2020

Share

You don’t get much cooler wine regions in Australia than the Coal River Valley in Tasmania which makes it perfectly suited to riesling, although this variety is still quite rare in the area. While Tasmanian rieslings are often quite understated and subtle, this wine packs a serious punch – it’s Tassie Riesling on steroids.

Pale in colour, the wine immediately delivers a tight core of pungent pear, citrus and sherbet aromas underscored by a rich vein of chalky minerality. The palate is then quite focussed although already delivers plenty of powerful pithy, textural fruit supported by linear acidity through to a reasonably long finish. This is probably an earlier drinking vintage of the Parish than some but, have no fear, it will drink beautifully over at least the next five years.
