And here it is, the young Nebbiolo that doesn’t need to ask permission, leaving you to wait and wonder before revealing itself. At first, a glance of savouriness, that tar, mineral note that is quintessential Nebbiolo. Then wild raspberries, orange-like amaro seasoned with mountains herbs, new leather. If you don’t have the patience to wait for more to come (as I’m writing this, new aromas are appearing), decant the wine. Tannins are, as you expect, grippy, but the acidity is so refreshing and lingering that make you forgive its young and nervy temper. There is an austerity to it, though I can perceive a certain sophistication underneath. If I close my eyes, I could easily mistake it for a young Barolo. The end of palate is long and savory. Needless to say, it has the pedigree to evolve in a mighty king.
