Podere ai Valloni Sass Russ 2020

From one of the oldest wineries in Boca, Alto Piemonte. Certified organic, it’s a blend of 70% Spanna (Nebbiolo), 30% Vespolina. Graceful start with a certain Burgundian (from cool climate/vintage) feel to it. Alcohol is only 12.5%. Polished cranberries, wild strawberries, raspberries, a whiff of nutmeg. The terroir here is whispering in my ears, yet I can clearly hear what it is saying with a well-integrated ferruginous note coming from the volcanic soil. Fine grained tannins caress the palate alongside a lively, yet aristocratic acidity. The terroir keeps talking on the palate, with a balsamic accent of resin this time. A moreish, elegant, pure, long-lasting Alto Piemonte wine that would put to shame many a Barolo or Barbaresco.
