Ponting Wines ‘The Pioneer’ Tasmanian Chardonnay 2019

Share

Ricky Ponting hales from Northern Tasmania so it is no great surprise that with Tasmania’s rapidly rising reputation for wine globally that he has some Tassie wines in his collection, including this chardonnay. The fruit was grown close to where he grew up in the Tamar Valley and showcases the purity of the wines from Tasmania. It is pale in colour and is an elegant and restrained chardonnay with bright and focussed citrus fruits plus flinty complexity well supported by subtle spicy oak. That subtle style continues on the palate with tangy acidity, moderate weight and alcohol of only 12.8% giving vitality and freshness which is topped off with nutty complexity on a lingering finish. Enjoy with subtle seafood dishes, such whitebait fritters.
