Small Victories Sangiovese 2021

The sisters (in-law) are back with a trio of approachable and delicious reds perfect for the cooling seasons. First off the bat is the 2021 Sangiovese from grapes grown at Macclesfield in the Adelaide Hills, pretty with sour cherries and dried rose petals, autumnal leaves and ferny undergrowth, all singing to the classic Sangiovese playbook. On the palate there is also plenty to love, with cherries galore and the edge of a savoury, almost sanguine note, and texture from maturation time in seasoned large format French oak. It’s crunchy and super food-friendly, with juicy acidity in a medium-bodied frame, and light but grippy tannins. My bet? Bistecca alla Fiorentina, in a flash!
