Squitchy Lane Cabernet Franc 2022

This wine pours the colour of sun-kissed blueberries and smells of them too. It’s absolutely bursting with fruit – raspberries and black currants join the fray shortly after. This flirtatiousness settles after some time in the glass into the aromas of the Australian bush – native flowers, gum trees and ancient rocks. The bright, tangy, red currants, cranberries and rhubarb surprise on the palate. It’s super juicy with a mouthwatering acidity and fine, textural, tea-like tannins. Cabernet Franc is a variety usually associated with the Loire valley where the fruit character can take a back seat to the herbaceous and earthy flavours. It is lovely to see an Australian example with such fruit purity.
