Not sure about the percentage of Viognier in this wine but it certainly makes its presence felt. From the iridescent purple hues to the attractive floral lift on the bouquet and the rise of rose petal and violet on the palate, the Viognier grape leaves its mark. And it’s an attractive mark, at that. A most charming, medium-bodied, lively young red, the ’22 Shiraz Viognier shows youthful energy and drive. I would be drinking it now in order to fully capture some of that delicious primary fruit and focus. Black peppercorns, licorice, dark fruits, earth and briar join forces with Viognier’s lifted florals to bring some Western Victorian class to the glass. Fine-knit tannins contribute good line and length. No fat here, just one long stream of cool climate peppery Shiraz Viognier.
