Taltarni Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre 2021

Grenache 45% Shiraz 37% Mourvèdre 18%. Raspberry, red cherries, black plum and mulberry. An assortment of red and black hues. Picked thyme, kalamata olive and dark chocolate mint. What follows is turned earth or potting soil savoury notes on the mid palate. This is a wine that delivers flavours right through from front to back, first sip to the last. Its lively and crunchy red fruit meet a savoury meaty mid palate followed by a hint of spice and hug of oak with pancetta and peppercorn the lasting impressions. Certainly a wine utilising the best of all three varieties in a cohesive way. I’d like to see this alongside charred meats, perhaps something skewered and on an open flame. Marinated lamb, pickled beans and flatbread would be a treat. Dressed in a puffy down jacket and crowded round a fire would be even more enticing.
