Taltarni Shiraz Viognier 2022

Share

Shiraz 89% Viognier 11%. Wild hibiscus, black cherry pie, lilac and blackberry wine gums. A waft of apricot, blood plums and campari has you turning around and examining the back label. The Viognier component deliberately lifts and elevates the aromatics here and is followed by such a slinky smooth Shiraz palate you almost wonder what kind of witchcraft is this. Melted dark Lindt chocolate centres, black olive, cinnamon and vanilla bean paste. A mix of new and French oak that really fits well into the richness of ripe fruit. Alcohol is kept in check and the finish is long, smooth and luxurious. I like the approach here. It’s not traditional, it’s not French, it’s a heady mix of two grapes that contrast and compliment each other and it’s done in such a way that makes you feel grateful we live in such a country that says, you do you. A very enjoyable wine and a steal at the price. I’ll take a refill thanks. Serve with slippery sauteed mushrooms over creamy polenta.
