An intelligent and masterly reflection of the Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir style – sinewy and fine textured, vibrant of fruit, bright in acidity and dressed in lacy tannins. And then there’s that cool climate energy on show. All combine beautifully in this wine. Red cherry, sour cherry, cassis, dried herbs, hints of blood orange skin and rose petal aromas. In keeping with the Gathering style, it builds and builds in the glass releasing a leafiness with earth and thyme among the mixed berries, florals. Oak is not a feature but rather a controlled and integrated note, binding a smooth, fleshy texture. Tannins fan out in style. The use of oak is quite a noted style element in the Gathering wines, the winemaker sensing the fruit doesn’t need or want a lot of oak. As a result, the wines shine.
