Brilliant lifted aromatics present from the outset with quite intensely floral tones — melon, lavender, pear, white peach, white grapefruit, nuts, crushed rocks. There are allusions of flint and a substratum of quality cedar oak adding savoury complexity without interference. The palate is creamy and fulsome, though with a cut of precisely defined fruit adding lift — yellow apple, pear, white peach and lemon form the core with cedar oak, grilled nuts and floral tones dancing around the edges. The structure is brilliant here, with the firm acid and finely tuned phenolics coiling around the fleshy mid-palate and driving brilliant waves of concentrated length. A brilliant Vat 47 out of a year to remember in the Hunter.
