Vignerons Schmölzer & Brown Thorley Nebbiolo 2022

Share

Classy from the outset, this opens with a distinctly mineral feel of cherry stone and iron, leading to dark cherry, dried violet, pressed rose, and a dusting of cinnamon and nutmeg. With air, blood orange tang, clove-studded orange, alpine herbs, and pan juices emerge. The palate has a nervy energy that settles with time, carrying a cool mineral feel as it bounces high through the mouth with Bing cherry, cranberry, red rose, and pops of blood orange before firm, powdery tannins ground the wine. A huge wash of orange citrus acidity cleans it all up, driving the wine to long length. This is aromatic, lithe, and lifted, with assertive structure. Give it time in the bottle to settle and fill, but what’s already here is very compelling.
