Voyager Estate MJW Chardonnay 2017

The Voyager Estate MJW Chardonnay is now up there with some of Margaret River’s, and naturally the country’s, best. It comes from the cooler Wallcliffe sub-region so is always a more reserved, even elegant, Margaret River style with every effort made in the vineyard and the winery to craft an iconic Australian Chardonnay.

2017 has turned out a bigger style of MJW but is still packed with subtlety. The wine is immediately on show and open for business with powerful layers of bold nectarine, peach skin and citrus fruits matched by impressive and high-quality oak, plus a savoury barrel ferment, almost praline edge. The wine is then quite muscular and dense with robust fruit on a full-bodied palate again driven to a long finish by that rich oak and moderate acidity. A crowd-pleasing almost decadent wine that also has the balance and character to age well.
