Watkins Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2021

There is so much mineral delicacy in the aromas that I suspect this wine might fool the odd blind-taster into thinking it was from France rather than Adelaide Hills. There’s pristine lemon and grapefruit zest, handfuls of seashells and a slight freshly-sliced fennel note. Very subtle oak is present, adding more food-friendly texture than flavour. It dances in your mouth with an incredible balance between zesty citrus flavours, pith-like texture and bright acidity that keeps you reaching for another sip. Adelaide Hills Chardonnay is starting to have its moment in the sun and wines like this ensure it will stay there. I adore this wine and really want to revisit it in a few years when the pristine fruit moves from its zesty seashell minerality to a honeyed nuttiness.
