The shiraz cabernet blend is a part of the furniture at Yalumba. Few companies take the classic Australian blend as seriously and it shows through their range, from The Caley, through The Signature, FDR1A and this wine as well. At Yalumba they also don’t like to hide the cabernet, as is often seen elsewhere, with its herbal characters never shied away from.
This wine showcases the approachable side of the shiraz cabernet blend. It still needs a little time to settle but definitely best enjoyed earlier than later. It opens with an impressive array of bright, sweet fruits – layers of cassis, leaf and mulberry with subtle oak underneath. It’s then fleshy and juicy, with plenty of flavour and bay leaf complexity sitting over a slightly firm palate. Give it a couple of years and enjoy with vegetarian lasagne.
