Sweet cedar and black pepper spice sit over blood plum, blackberry, black cherry, rubbed mint and grilled meat. Bay leaf emerges, alongside earthy notes with air, taking the wine to a new level of complexity. There’s a coolness to the palate that offsets the full body and dense flavour concentration — cedar, vanilla, black pepper, plum, black cherry, olive, blackberry and meat rolling through the mouth with assertion and power. Stacked, grainy tannins provide shape and frame, while a mint-flecked acidity freshens the close. There’s a lot going on here, and this should develop nicely in the cellar as the oak and structural elements soften and integrate.
