Each year, Wynns bottles a standout parcel from a single vineyard. In 2022, the Childs Vineyard on V&A Lane made its mark – and this wine shows exactly why. It’s a classy, composed Cabernet of elegance and definition. From the outset, it makes an impact: lashings of fine cedar, mint and blackberry pastille leap from the glass, wrapped in a sweet layer of vanilla bean paste. With air, the wine broadens: graphite, tilled earth and warm gravel lend savoury depth, while a distinct mulberry note lifts the fruit profile. Ripe plum and edges of eucalyptus emerge with warmth, completing an aromatic profile that’s both complex and beguiling – savoury and fruit-driven in equal measure. The palate is awash with vibrant mulberry, plum and blackberry fruit, framed by vanilla and cedar, with graphite, mocha and earthy undertones in support. Structure is a highlight—tannins are stacked, grainy and vertical, yet finely integrated, drawing the wine to a long, elegant finish. A wine of quiet power and enduring grace.
