After Five Wine Co. Single Vineyard Montepulciano 2018

This is from the Stansborough vineyard with an altitude of 253 metres. The perfect conditions in the Barossa restrict Montepulciano’s natural tendency for high yields and keep the berry size small giving increased concentration of flavour. The wine shows vibrant purple florals with violets and crushed rose petals, with fennel seed spice. The palate is serious but medium weight with defined boysenberry, black cherry and Christmas cake. Fine-grained tannins add a savoury element and an extra layer of depth to this wine. A really well-made new world example of Montepulciano that keeps you going back for more. Great drinking by itself but would be elevated with some grilled lamb chops and bacon-infused Brussels Sprouts topped with rosemary and garlic.
