Hard as it is to believe, Great Western Riesling is Best’s introductory Riesling. It’s also the standard bearer for the grape in the region, the one that other makers – and drinkers – tend to judge Grampians Riesling by. In 2022, you see a wine at the top of its game. Florals rise from the glass – honeysuckle, jasmine, iris, citrus blossom – the scent of spring, with a lemon sorbet brightness. Nothing is over-stated or forced, quite the opposite, there’s a delicacy and balance here. The palate is elegant and precise with real verve and energy that holds impressive concentration and length with a lovely lemony acid tang to close. Another top Riesling from a top winemaker.
