Burton McMahon D’Aloisio’s Vineyard 2021

This thoroughly modern example of Upper Yarra Valley Chardonnay will split opinions. Some will love that finer, acid driven style and chalky texture while others will want more flavour – I’m in the latter camp right now but it may come good with time. There is excellent complexity to be found with precise floral, honeydew melon fruits lifted by smoky, nougat lees complexity which slowly emerges from the glass. It is followed by laser-like acidity and an attractive creamy texture which drives a long, fine and embryonic finish with oak neatly tucked to one side. It is wound up super tight right now so give it at least 2-3 years to build on that strong acid frame.
