The Everest ’21 reaches for the heights and then some, in what was a great vintage in the Barossa Valley. With its name, expectations tend to run high. It invariably meets them, but in ’21 there is an added X Factor, something that little bit extra special. For me, it is the middle palate, a moment of fine-ness and black fruited spice intensity where it is possible to lose your way and get lost in its embrace. Big, generous, ripe in solid, black fruited Barossan integrity and backed by an equally sound and strong tannin structure, it marks its case for further ageing. Fine by me, I look forward to reacquainting myself with that amazing middle palate beauty some time in the future.
