The lengthy headline title to this wine needs further detailing before we taste this special release. Labelled in team colours, Claymore Wines is just as passionate about English Premier League club Liverpool as it is about its home base Clare Valley, focusing on vineyards mostly in the central Watervale and Penwortham districts. And when it comes to home bases, Liverpool FC’s Anfield Road is as big as it gets. Likewise the reason for this celebration blend – the team was EPL premiers in season ‘24/25. And likewise the wine itself, a blockbuster style in every sense, high-powered to begin, its 15% alcohol rating prominent, inky and iodine-like, though the fruit drive has enough energy to reveal fresh blackberry through the centre of the palate, a subtle mint easing out of a fairly solid backdrop, Cabernet tannins feathering the finish. It’s a statement, big-time Aussie blend to honour one’s undying football passion.
