Eastern Peake Mount Block Pinot Noir 2023

Share

From a block planted in 1994 to MV6 clone, grown on volcanic grey loam over weathered basalt at 430m altitude. Spontaneous fermentation in 3000L concrete fermenters, then 228 litre French barriques from various coopers. Tart cherry, raspberry, cranberry and plum tart lead, with black tea, bay leaf, rhubarb and orange peel in the mix. Air brings in a savoury pan-juice note. The palate is taut and airy, lifted by tart cherry and raspberry with tangy orange peel and tea complexity. Earthy undertones linger. Coiled, chalky tannins frame the wine, giving firmness to the bright, fresh finish. Marginal in ripeness, but with air it gathers charm – another assured Pinot Noir release from the Eastern Peake crew.
