Fruit is from a single 40-hectare vineyard operation that brings together the iconic Dixons Creek Estate and the adjacent former Mandala vineyard, originally planted by the Henkell family in the 1980s. Cabernet through and through this opens with cassis and blackberry shrub, some high tones of lavender and Acai berries too. Oak shows more in the mid palate with cedar and tobacco, but berry fruit is dense and weighted,coming out the other side as the hero of this wine. Rosemary and pencil box on the finish, this is more opulent than you may expect and fruit concentration is high and mighty. Drink now with a rib eye, but this has another 8-10 years ahead of it yet.
Shanteh cut her teeth at Sydney’s Award-Winning Quay restaurant where she worked for over a decade and was Head Sommelier from 2018 till 2022. She has been nominated for the Good Food Guide Sommelier of the Year award on three occasions and claims that her experience as a Len Evans scholar as one of the highlights of her career. Shanteh hosts her own weekly podcast ‘Over A Glass’ with the Deep in the Weeds Network and spends her time writing for various publications and judging at numerous wine shows across the country.
