Evan Evans Rosso 2022

A sub-regional blend of Montepulciano (Light Pass), Shiraz (Tanunda), Mataro (Two Stone Well Vineyards) and Nero d’Avola (Seppeltsfield). Spicy aromas lead the charge aromatically. Nutmeg and star anise sit above red plum and black cherry, with gentle tilled earth and a glimmer of orange rind to follow. The palate is juicy and full bodied, with a vibrant and fulsome melding of fruit and spice again. Bursts of blackberry, black cherry, and brown spice are wrapped up in a cool wash of acid. The tannins are fine, integrated and cocoa laced, providing a bitter edge and ample frame to pull the fruit through to an elegant and significant finish. This reads high on the drinkability scale, though with ample complexity to grab on to. What’s more, the quality to price ratio gets a huge tick from me.
