Fighting Gully Road Tempranillo 2017

Share

I don’t mind saying that Fighting Gully Road is one of my favourite wineries in Beechworth. The man behind it, Mark Walpole, is hugely experienced and it shows in all the wines, which are complex and have great character and personality.

Beechworth seems well suited to Tempranillo with wines like this showing the way. It is a very robust and savoury local Tempranillo style with a distinctly Spanish edge – mulberry fruit is supported by roasted meat, tobacco and spice fruit complexity. It is bone dry, firm and full bodied with good acidity; the fruit well matched in a vibrant and juicy style with well integrated tannins finishing with baked earth complexity. Drinking well now but also a medium term cellaring proposition.
