Fleet Wines Leongatha Pinot Noir 2025

Share

Grown on a single site in Leongatha, South Gippsland, north-facing rows on an easterly aspect, with deep, basalt-rich clay loam soils. Vines planted in 1990. Fermented 80% de-stemmed (18 days) and 20% whole bunch (21 days), naturally, before maturation in neutral puncheons for 9 months. Woody spice and delicate black pepper are quick to melt into bright red cherry, raspberry and just ripe red plum to start, before some air reveals another spice layer in cayenne pepper along with some leaf litter and a lovely riverstone mineral element. The palate is buoyant and vibrant, with fine, silty and chalky tannins putting ample frame around a lovely lithe-but-present fruit profile, the acid bringing a good wash of freshness through a finish of good length. There’s a lot on offer here for $45 – spicy complexity, mineral coolness, silky structure and lovely Pinot Noir charm. Delicious.
