A cross regional blend of Shiraz (59%), Cabernet Sauvignon (33%), Cabernet Franc (6%) and Merlot (2%) sourced from vineyards in both Eden Valley (60%) and Barossa Valley (40%), hence its overriding Barossa appellation. A delight to see how this merry band of varieties plays together, fragrant to begin with a bouquet of crushed dark plum and berry lifted by kitchen herbs – bay leaf for sure – with a sprinkle of black pepper. Extra spice elements are derived from French oak maturation, 20% new hogsheads and the rest seasoned with a mix of American oak as well, all for 20 months, seamlessly threaded with the fruit, a touch of dark cocoa both in flavour and bitterness adding to the depth of the palate with a brush of superfine tannins dusting the finish. A classic blend at the top of its game.
