This is a blend of 45% Grenache, 30% Cinsault, 20% Syrah and 5% Mourvèdre. A limpid pale salmon colour does a nice job of inducing thirst from the get go. The nose is led by crunchy wild strawberry and delicate red rose with a subtle white pepper spice beneath. It’s restrained in its aromas, though bright and pure at the same time. Spring garden florals emerge more with air, with green florals and a mineral edge adding to the prettiness and complexity. The palate is equally poised and pretty, with a nice even burst of crunchy strawberry and raspberry gliding through the mouth and the spicy florals permeating the back palate. There’s good clean acidity and a lick of phenolic grip, too. In honesty, the price point had me wondering if this would be just another insipid offering amongst the ocean of mediocre Provence rose. I worried in vain. This is a lovely lifted and thirst-slaking example, with enough flesh on its bones to tuck in to. And at $21.99, it’s a steal.
