An exceptional single-vineyard wine from vines that were planted back in 1865. Just 12 rows of these vines remain, but they punch out some marvellous fruit that is captured perfectly in this wonderful expression of Clare Shiraz. The colour is brilliant and bright, with red crimson hues, and a dark core of blackish fruit. The nose explodes with a mass of dried herbs and dark, plummy blackberry fruits, with a little hint of graphite, complementing the slightly savoury note. On the palate, more complex notes of charcuterie and game start to emerge through the dark, swirling fruit. It’s lightly touched with tannin, and the oak sits comfortably within. It’s a first-rate example of what can be achieved in Clare.
