The wine is a true expression of those Mediterranean varieties with bright red raspberry and red plums in syrup with wafts of red rose petals and white pepper. The small 2019 harvest certainly didn’t lack in flavour concentration with elements of liquorice root, freshly tanned leather, semi-dried tomato, and oregano leaves. The palate shape showcases good structure and the ability for handling those savoury flavours of garlic, rich tomato-based stews and slow-cooked meats. This wine is a steal for $30 and makes me thankful the Della Mina family emigrated to South Australia in the 1930’s and that their legacy still continues. Do them justice by hand-making your pasta and using only the best Italian Sugo.
