Lienert Estate Barossa Valley Mataro 2018

Mataro as you so rarely see it these days; alone and stark naked without its buddies, Shiraz and Grenache. I hope you enjoy the show – I did – because it’s clearly enjoying itself as it presents to the drinker some pretty scrumptious fruit. And it’s all about the teeming fruit. For a three-year-old, it fairly bounces in the glass in red cherry, plum, blueberry nicely countered by some darker, savoury shades of earth and undergrowth.  There’s a peppery spice lurking there, too, which is something that Mataro does very well. Hopefully, we get to see more Mataros like this, sans friends and standing proud. That would be nice and most welcome.
