As with the Chardonnay, this is sourced from the Mount Barrow vineyard in Great Southern at an altitude of 380 metres. Fruit and savoury notes hold hands from the outset – wild strawberry, cocoa powder, black cherry, raspberry compote, rhubarb, dried herbs, subtle undergrowth, dried meat. Quite a bit going on in terms of complexity. The palate is lifted and buoyant with notes of plum, cranberry, dark cherry and wild strawberry making up the core, with some brown spice, dried herbs and subtle earth adding savoury dimension and interest around the fruit. The tannins are fine and grainy, putting up a nice frame through the finish along with an integrated line of cleansing acidity. Lots to like here.
