Mount Horrocks Watervale Riesling 2026

Of all the adjectives really only one that does it justice: entrancing. From the first sniff, the first tingle of spice and citrus on the tongue, you are hooked.  Engagement is immediate and lasting with a lovely amalgam of scents in spring flowers, citrus blossom, apple, intenses you could use to describe this wine – and you could use a lot – there are lime cordial and lemon citrus intertwined in spice and touches of Thai basil. This is a finely-tuned Riesling, beautifully pitched in juicy, firm acidity while also delivering a gentle creaminess and integrated flavours. A dusty lemony-ness and lime is hugely appealing with a co-mingling spiciness in lemongrass and exotic Asian notes that adds extra layers. Perfectly in sync with an impressive purity, line and length of Riesling expression. Classic Clare Riesling.

Wine critic at Winepilot

Jeni Port is one of Australia’s top wine communicators. Based in Melbourne, Jeni created the first wine column in the (then) Sun News-Pictorial before moving over to The Age and becoming that paper’s longest-serving wine writer. Over the years she has written for most Australian wine magazines and these days calls WinePilot home. She is also a Tasting Panel member on the Halliday Wine Companion. She was named Wine Communicator of the Year and Legend of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival in 2014 and in 2018 Legend of the Vine. She is a founding board member of Australian Women In Wine and is the co-deputy chair of Australia’s Wine List of the Year Awards and China’s Wine List of the Year Awards.
