Mount Stapylton Grampians Shiraz 2024

Share

Unlike Grenache, Shiraz is abundant in the Grampians region, where the Mediterranean climate can nurture grapes to create poignant, rather than powerful, wines that retain their acid. The 2024 Shiraz is a concentrated beauty, with rich flavours of mulberry, tangy boysenberry, strawberry, rhubarb and red cherry, with a  smidge of stewed fruit, yet the alcohol is only 13.3% ABV. The palate is zippy and delicious, though I actually found the wine to be better by itself than with food, and it was very easy to finish a glass. I don’t think it’s anywhere near its peak yet, so you could confidently cellar it for another five years or so.
