Oraterra Chardonnay 2024

Share

This is an arresting wine from the outset. There’s immediacy to the fruit before lashings of floral, nutty and mineral complexity cascade. Kumquat, white peach, green mango and nectarine sit at the fore with some nutty tones dancing around the edges in walnut husk and almond. Some dehydrated lime and herbal tea tones emerge with air, along with an array prettying and complexifying floral plumes. Allusions of honey. It’s very mineral, too, in a wet riverstone way, adding coolness and shape through the perfume. This is unique while also clearly Chardonnay. There’s lovely shape and precision on the palate. Kumquat, peach skin, bergamot tea, apricot kernel, wet stone, toasted nuts – it all sits in a silky medium bodied texture before being wrapped up in bitter orange citrus-laden phenolics and a cool wash of acidity. There’s long length and pops of bergamot tea dancing through the mouth perfume. This is utterly beguiling, packed with interest and brilliant complexity. A great release.
