Ottelia Limestone Coast Sangiovese 2017

Share

Sangiovese can be a tough old grape. Many have tried but few in Australia really get to the heart of what makes this variety tick. Real sangiovese does not taste like shiraz – it’s juicy, savoury, tannic and even challenging.

This example gets it about right – lots of red cherry pip and dried herb fruits with an earthy kick thrown in the mix all whipped into shape by its crunchy acidity. It is dry and supple with some grainy tannins, so pizza wine style but that is not taking anything away from it. It is just made for early drinking to wash down a casual meal, a job it does well.
