Out of the Ordinary McLaren Vale/Heathcote Graciano Grenache Gamay 2020

Just when you thought we’d moved on to 5G, we are back to 3G, though this time, something very appealing – Graciano, Grenache and Gamay. Is there any other wine on the planet that is a blend of these three grapes? They are sourced from McLaren Vale and Heathcote. Graciano is a famous Spanish variety, mostly from Rioja, as originally is Grenache, though it is a little more widespread in that country. Gamay is the grape of Beaujolais. Partial maturation of the blend was in a mix of French and American oak for a year. Deep crimson, this blend is fresh and exuberant, with aromas of dark fruits mixed with red, mulberries, strawberries, cloves, a hint of leather and smoky notes. These continue onto the palate, which is impressively long and plush. This would be ideal winter barbeque fare or for a night in, in front of the footy. Lots to like.
