Grüner Veltliner enlists the company of four grape buddies – Pinot Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Riesling and Pinot Gris – in a complex, co-fermentation that works a treat. Lively in scent, it boasts a mix of florals, herbs and spices in league with citrus. The drinker gets to enjoy a well-fitted, exciting bunch of grapes and explore a lingering layer of herbs that bring in sorrel, cress and chervil. That herbal interplay raises a potent memory of visits to Austria, not an uncommon feature of Adelaide Hills Grüner, heightened by citrus, baked apple, pear spices and florals before an arresting, lovely, lasting finish. Bottle age suits the style well.
