Paramoor Macedon Ranges Riesling 2023

Share

‘Hand-picked Pewsey Vale clones. Hand-picked at 11 Baume. Wild yeast fermented and stored on lees in a stainless steel tank until bottling in December 2023. 11.5% alc’.

This was a very easy wine to love. It had a lovely expression of peach as soon as I opened the bottle, which almost filled the entire room. On closer inspection, there was orange blossom and fresh honeysuckle, pointing to its youth and vivacity, while chalk and grapefruit came along for the ride and added some more depth. The palate showed immense acid drive and minerality, giving a tingly sensation on the tongue, accompanied by some saltiness that made you forget that the Macedon Ranges are nowhere near the sea. The mouthfeel is delightful, with a medium+ weight, and the wine is a pleasure to drink either by itself or with something spicy, cheesy or salty.
