Releasing a wine after it’s aged for several (or many) years is a strategy that we don’t see all that often in Australia, but it’s a great way to send a wine out into the world after it’s picked up some aged characters and is more cohesive. If you’re not a fan of aged Riesling, then you can stop reading now, but let me tell you, you’ll be missing out. The Block 5 Aged is a gorgeous wine, fully matured but still with lots of life. It has a pronounced kerosene aroma, supported by nuttiness, cheese, smoke, dried citrus and burnt butter, with a florality that returns after the wine has breathed for a while. The palate is silky and toasty, with nice minerality, and the acid is still very lively. All in all, this is a stunning wine which will reward all who partake of it.
