Patrick of Coonawarra Two Blocks Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Share

As the name suggests, the fruit for this wine comes from two blocks in their northern Coonawarra vineyard. It’s billed as being a bit lighter and more approachable than some of their other Cabernets, yet I found it to be quite dark and brooding – and delicious. There’s still a hint of primary fruit (blackcurrant), alongside some olive, with a bit of vanilla from the oak and loads of chocolate, shoe polish, earth and smoke. I actually found it quite reminiscent of a high-quality dark chocolate gelati, but without the sweetness. It’s rich and dense, with fully integrated tannins, and it was just as lovely on the second night.
