To the south of Coonawarra, we don’t often see Mount Gambier on a wine label, as it’s a quiet achiever living in the shadow of its famous sibling. Not far from the coast, its vineyards enjoy the benefits of the cool climate, allowing grapes such as Pinot Noir to shine. The Two Blocks Pinot is one of those wines, offering beautiful aromas of red cherry, black pepper and rhubarb, as well as some stemminess, and mushroom and earth from its time in bottle. The mouthfeel is delightful, both salty and umami, with faint but slightly chewy tannins. It should keep improving for a few more years yet.
