Purple Hands Barossa Valley Mataro 2023

Share

In 1896, an article titled ‘The Mataro Question’ appeared in the Adelaide Observer, decrying the light, early-picked and no doubt unappealing wines being made from the grape in Australia at the time. Fast forward 127 years and you come to the Purple Hands Mataro, which is everything that those early examples were not. The first thing to notice is abundant fruit and captivating florals, with gorgeous notes of boysenberry, strawberry, raspberry, confectionery, violets and pepper. There’s amazing fruit sweetness on the palate, with a silky, slippery mouthfeel supported by a medium+ body. While the alcohol is 14.5%, it’s barely discernible. I liked this wine a great deal and I’m certain you will, too.
